Forget Right vs Left ~ The Problem is Right vs Wrong & Main Street vs Wall Street divides the 99% from the 1% Corporate Persons

Tue Oct 11, 2011 1:36 AM EDT
By Pamela Drew

Mitt Romney's 1% view of how Wall Street connects to Main Street is as far from the visible division put in place to bar mortal citizens from voicing complaints to better protected corporate ones!

Active trading at the NYSE 4pm Friday, October 7, 2011 off limits to the public!

Advertise | AdChoices

Tonight on Rachel Maddow's show there was coverage of the GoP Primary.  They played a clip of Mitt Romney commenting on the Occupy Wall Street Protest, but it is quoted here from the Buenos Aires Herald.

"All the streets are connected. Wall Street is connected to Main Street," Romney said, adding that protesters are seeking "scapegoats to attack."

"Don't attack a whole class of Americans, whether they're rich or poor, white or black. This isn't the time for divisiveness."\

Come down to Wall Street near the end of the trading day Mr. Romney and see with your own eyes what the 99% already know.  There's a divide between the insiders and the whole rest of the world that's bigger than the defensive forces protecting everything but the Embassy in Occupied Baghdad.

Open your flippin eyes Mr. Romney and realize that the suffering and sacrifice of the 99% of the public who are corralled like cattle around the Hallowed Ground of the NYSE's oasis, taken by virtue of their own insecurity without any public discussion.

When the MSM talking heads and political spin chatter refers to the angry mobs who have the gall to threaten Wall Street & trigger an epic level of armed defense, know the "mob" Occupying Liberty Park in this picture are the dangerous threat they are referring to.

Long view from NYPD barricade between 1 & 2 Wall Street toward William flanked by another Trump Tower & Tiffany's.

As for Romney's appeal that this isn't a time for divisions, it's beyond irony, downright laughable that the one rift that moves him to a spirit of unity is the divide between Wall Street and the 99% pockets that fund them.

Nevermind that Rovian Fox Hounds have done nothing but, paint all their opposition, as terrorist sympathizers and Anti-American, relentlessly and with a fervor since 9/11 became the gateway to War on Terror vs Omnibus Spending Bills.

The MSM has fueled divisions, right down to the circus over whether the President was even a citizen; rather than behave like truthful grown ups and dismiss nonsense to work at real problems.

Today there were sound bites from Eric Cantor railing against people adding conflict to our peaceful political dialogue, while operatives at the American Spectator took matters into their own hands, inciting violence in the Occupy Wall Street movement in Washington D.C.

Eric Cantor Condems Occupy Wall Street Protest ~ "This administration's failed policies have resulted in an assault on many of our nation's bedrock principles," he said. "If you read the newspapers today, I, for one, am increasingly concerned about the growing mobs occupying Wall Street and the other cities across the country. And believe it or not, some in this town, have actually condoned the pitting of Americans against Americans. But you sent us here to fight for you and all Americans."

Who would have guessed the GoP strategy would be can't we all join hands and get along, but actions speak louder than words and springing to the defense of Wall Street is apparently the incentive it takes for Congress to crave a healing unity for the Nation.

You can't fool all of the people all of the time, especially when the truth is slapping all but the 1% across the face.  Our losses and liabilities are growing just like the palacial expanse the NYSE has laid claim to in New York's public space.

Our children hungry and homeless, our Veterans on food stamps and sleeping in the streets, our savings swept away in a frenzy of derrivative betting as record bankrupcy and foreclosures take homes and security they give families and communities.  What happens to each Even saving the home is a dubious value when the houses are worth far less than their mortgages.

The Occupied Wall Street Journal is a shining example of Free Market Capitalism and entrepreneurial spirit serving the 99% and what a threat that is for the group selling Wall Street to us.

The message of Occupy Wall Street will resonate because the 99% see the truth of our corrupted political system all around us.  But in that is the power for the revolutionary change the entire planet has been crying for and her people ready to deliver.  The Tea Party Movement got one thing right, revolutionary change is upon us, but it isn't going to be watching the other shoe drop for a Koch Brothers corporate coup, but for the masses who have the tools and passion to lead the way to a better future that measures progress with social costs and benefits as paramount in the equation.

“The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.” ~ Winston Churchill~

It's late now, hard to remember what links I wanted to add, but the pictures missing for the last article got uploaded and there are a good shots of the NYSE policed oasis of open in the public space of Lower Manhattan. All my pics are shared happily so anyone wanting one feel free to grab it from Flicker!

What's most important is every one of us who discusses the problems with our friends in cyberspace and on the ground where we meet face to face. Lasting change is a process not an event so as we make the changes one by one and day by day, keep encouraged even if you don't see the movement, it rides on the passions we each have for freedom and every flicker makes it brighter! :~)

Pamela,

Gorgeous article. Clipping it to my column. We need to get the message out to forget the old divides we have been spoonfed so we can recognize our commonalities and who the real enemies are.

Love the Occupied Wall Street Journal. There is no stopping us.

Mahalo rochart all good is good! Any time two or more of us gather we gain ground for standing for ourselves!! Next step we get the consumers to understand that every dollar the spend is for Wall Street or local benefit. Maybe at that point the gmo right to know will be able to hit its tipping point!!

Hello Ben Josephs and other photo fans, you'll notice there are two photography groups this has been clipped to. Maybe we could make everyone happy and designate one for photojournalism and one to the art of photography.

It would make a lot of sense and we're big enough, both should grow organically with its own perfect blend. Just remember to tell me which one wants what, haha!

An alternate media and voice of the 99% who are anonymous is captured by Hactivists Anonymous who have been supporters of the Occupy Wall Street protests and encouraging accountability and Justice.

Operation Brittan takes OWS global "Saturday October 15th 2011 will be your opportunity for rebellion. We call on Britain to unite and organise peacefully. Unions, anti-cuts groups, community organisations, students, activists, citizens: you know your political system is not fit for purpose. Rally your supporters and stand together in holding mass protests in your major cities," Anonymous said.

"Together you can send a powerful message to your government: you are the people of Britain and your voice WILL be heard."

Good news!

First, we had globalization of capital, then the globalization of labor is underway in order to reduce the entire human race into a pool of cheap labor (slaves) but now we have the globalization of revolution! Well for us to remember that the American Revolution was partnered by revolutions all over the world.

When Newsvine first introduced the tracker we had a lot of community discussion about the merits of voting for yourself, the final consensus was that it is more of a functional practicality so the tracker finds it and not a matter of vanity. If it's worth saying it's worth sharing and trust me the trolls and PR spammers have no qualms about getting traction so it's almost a democratic obligation to even the odds! :~)

Pamela great write-up and pics. I'm not sure what a system that measures "social costs and benefits as paramount in the equation" would look like, but it's something worth striving for. I'm afraid that things may have to get much worse before the majority of Americans are ready for fundamental changes to our political and economic system.

One correction though, your comments will appear in the conversation tracker whether you vote them up or not, it tracks all new comments since your last page visit. Where "self-promotion" is important is on articles and seeds - they won't show up in your friends conversation trackers unless you leave a comment.

Nothing wrong with voting up your own comment, I usually don't bother unless it's sitting on "4" and my slight OCD tendencies urge me to make it a nice orderly "5" with a star ;)

Think Progress - Oct 10, 2011 at 10:30 Wall Street funded Campaign to smear 99% voices

Thee campaign to marginalize and destroy the growing 99 Percent Movement is in full swing, with many in the media attempting to smear the people participating in the “occupation” protests across the country. However, several of the so-called journalists deriding, and in some cases sabotaging the movement, have paychecks thanks to a billionaire whose business practices have been scorned as among the worst of the financial elite.

As the New York Times has documented, Paul Singer, a Republican activist and hedge fund manager worth over $900 million, has emerged as one of the most important power brokers within the GOP. Now, it appears that the reporters financed by Singer are at the forefront of efforts to tarnish the reputation of 99 Percent Movement demonstrators:

Occupy Wall Street adds multilingual opportunity for inclusion

http://occupywallst.org/forum/occupytranslation/

Simple concept: See something in one language, put it in another.

For me, the most powerful elements of Occupy are the production of dialogue and the creation of new organization/possibilities. Walking through LIberty Square one is stuck by the Human Mic, the working groups, the energy, the fluidity and mass in the center. But on the fringe - along the street vendors, on the corners and across the street - there is talk. Ties and t-shirts, blazers and jeans, even blue hair and badges. People are engaging with the issues, the complaints and the grievances.

Expand the fringe!

Help translate signs, posters, slogans, papers, newsletters, commentary, everything. Imagine if every sign, every slogan and every chant was translated in Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Russian and every other world language, ready to be gobbled up by the international media and sent to every corner of the earth.

With unions, workers, teachers, nurses, students and others in the 10,000s marching on oct 5 in NY the international media takes notice of Occupy wall street. Help them spread the messages. One idea is to organize multilingual volunteer teams organized like working groups traveling amongst protesters and marchers to translate signs into a multitude of languages the voices of Occupy wall street can be heard around the world. But thats just one idea. Expand and inspire!

knight...Get big corporate money and their lobbyists out of our elections and out of law making in DC.

It is the core of the problem and so pervasive we citizens need to be virtual researchers to identify the truth about who is doing what in policy because they all say the same %$#@ campaigning! Here's a great resource to see some of the pay to play influence that we the people need to challenge!!

From SourceWatch ~ This is a list of groups or individuals associated in some capacity with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

Come down to Wall Street near the end of the trading day Mr. Romney and see with your own eyes what the 99% already know. There's a divide between the insiders and the whole rest of the world that's bigger than the defensive forces protecting everything but the Embassy in Occupied Baghdad.

Excellent and well articulated article. It certainly is a "good" read!

The truth will set you free, but first it will make you miserable.

"This isn't the time for divisiveness", my freakin' fudgecicles !!! Why have we been on the outside looking in all these decades?

What a fool.....Too dumb to understand that we have been divided for a very, very long time.

What a perfect description wish I'd thought to say on the outside looking in, but we're on the same page especially about changing that problem. It's hard for them to see what life looks like on Main Street when the livery car sweeps them from the helipad to the Exchange and back to lift off to their comfortable homes again!

What we are told we are voting for and what we get are worlds apart. The art of American politics seems to be the amount of public deception you can leverage to get people to support elected officials working against our self interest.

Look what happened in Wisconsin when the citizens saw what they were getting from Governor Walker! If the media did an honest job we'd be okay, but they don't and we're not okay, yet!!

Well, that is true. How in the world did they manage to manipulate the system to ensure such deception? More importantly, how do we undo this damage?

How in the world did they manage to manipulate the system to ensure such deception?

Unfortunately there isn't a simple answer to a process that is generations in the making; but if there were one group to look at in terms of the power and wealth that has flowed to them as ill gotten gains it would have to be the Skull & Bones Banksters.

They've run covert ops both officially and off the record, to a growing degree from the days of the Opium Wars, but not a subject that lends itself to accepting or understanding with superficial reference, more of a slog through the archives to believe you have a good handle on it, but if your interested I'll add a few links of places to start that journey.

Antony Sutton, is the author of 26 books, many of which can be purchased on-line at Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Liberty House Press at 1-800-343-6180 has copies of America's Secret Establishment and Best Enemy Money Can Buy for sale.

The following interview with Mr. Sutton is dated July 6, 1999 http://www.rense.com/politics6/SKULL.htm
Antony C. Sutton, 74, has been persecuted but never prosecuted for his research and subsequent publishing of his findings. His mainstream career was shattered by his devotion towards uncovering the truth. In 1968, his Western Technology and Soviet Economic Development was published by The Hoover Institute at Stanford University. Sutton showed how the Soviet state's technological and manufacturing base, which was then engaged in supplying the North Vietnamese the armaments and supplies to kill and wound American soldiers, was built by US firms and mostly paid for by the US taxpayers. From their largest steel and iron plant, to automobile manufacturing equipment, to precision ball-bearings and computers, basically the majority of the Soviet's large industrial enterprises had been built with the United States help or technical assistance.
(ps not even HTML <blockquotes> are working to indent it >-< )

Hope some of that is helpful and always feel free to ask for different links or tangents to follow!

knight...More importantly, how do we undo this damage?

The first step to solving any problem is seeing that a problem exists. Next we can begin asking the questions that may help us find answers.

Opening up honest dialogue is a big milestone in the process. Then the free flow of information and desire to be educated participants in our government are the two biggest components for individuals to embrace if we're changing as dramatically as we need to.

From there we can choose wisely what we buy and who we elect and vote with our dollars to support what sustains a global humankind and its ecosystems rather than the quick buck scammers who ruin all of it!

Dang flakey quote thing made me forget my other Bonsey reference links. There are some old Bones articles of mine here too but Newsvine search is the worst for me, even my muckraking skills can't get me an article of my own, go figure!

Trine Day is a wonderful source for a full spectrum of topics, vetted to separate sound argument and academically researched evidence, from tin foil hat and meandering rants that waste time and confuse you. I love Trine Day very much for the material they find, share and protect and the many years they've done it.

Fleshing out Skull & Bones is the first one Sutton did himself, the second a collaboration that builds the course of modern history on the findings of the Fraternal members and benefits from Bonsey allies.

Others represent newer wealth — Harriman, Bush, Weyerhaeuser, Pillsbury, Heinz, Payne, Kellogg, Dodge, Davison, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Gates.

There are a bunch of groups here that have become inactive over the years and you probably tried one of the two groups that's defunct, so go to the Newsvine-Photographers and try that. If there's any problem, which I can't imagine there would be, let me know and I'll vouch for you with the moderators!

As for Romney's appeal that this isn't a time for divisions, it's beyond irony, downright laughable that the one rift that moves him to a spirit of unity is the divide between Wall Street and the 99% pockets that fund them.

Well good ol' Rom just lost me. I wanted to believe that he was the more decent GOPer in the bunch of candidates, but saying that this is not the time to divide people is just out of touch. The 1% have already been divided and insulated by their power-money-influence-prestige --- now it is time that they paid their fair share of all the pain that they caused the other 99%.

BTW Pamela I saw the news this morning about the NY police clearing out the park of OWS protesters. Are you all right, girl? Please check in with us. Hoping you are safe.

Thanks for the concerns but I'm too old to stand directly in harms way and was though I am often close by trouble spots taking pictures this event was so late and stealthy it got me close only by livestream.

I do worry quite a bit about all occupiers living in the open but it goes beyond NYC protest! :~)

OK, Pamela, I did not think you were camping out in the park with the others but I was a bit concerned when you were not commenting on more recent stories about the crackdown. Thanks for checking in and keep chronicling OWS as news happens over there.
