It's hard to imagine how little we'd know without the Internet to allow free access to information. It's also clear from a long history of DeClassified documents that what is most secret is crimes by those in High Office.

Operation Blacklist was also added as a seed but with Youtube as a primary target and links to this video behaving badly all day, I wanted to make sure it has the opportunity to be seen.

There's little that we need more in these times than access to Information unfettered by the CYA interference of Congress.

Like every Bill Congress undertakes the name is juxtaposed with the intent.  Just as Blue Skies opened the flood gates for toxic pollution the Protect IP legislation also referred to as Stop Online Piracy Act are aimed at 1% benefit and 99% costs.

Anonymous: United as ONE Divided by ZERO.

It's frightening enough to learn what is done in our name as Americans with the limited censorship of classified Information.  What in the world would happen if Congress could pull the plug on our data access.

I'm sure there will be champagne corks popping from Monsanto who have kept their product information out of the MSM since 1997, what else will we lose but more rights and freedoms?

Once your temperture rises, pick up the phone and tell the Congress, no thank you for adding censorshi for us like parental controls when all we need is corruption free Washington!!  Capitol Switchboard 202-224-3121

TRANSCRIPT

Citizens of the United States, We are Anonymous.

This is an urgent emergency alert to all people of the United States. The day we've all been waiting for has unfortunately arrived. The United States is censoring the internet. Our blatant response is that we will not sit while our rights are taken away by the government we trusted them to preserve. This is not a call to arms, but a call to recognition and action!

The United States government has mastered this corrupt way of giving us a false sense of freedom. We think we are free and can do what we want, but in reality we are very limited and restricted as to what we can do, how we can think, and even how our education is obtained. We have been so distracted by this mirage of freedom, that we have just become what we were trying to escape from.

For too long, we have been idle as our brothers and sisters were arrested. During this time, the government has been scheming, plotting ways to increase censorship through means of I S P block aides, D N S blockings, search engine censorship, website censorship, and a variety of other methods that directly oppose the values and ideas of both Anonymous as well as the founding fathers of this country, who believed in free speech and press!

The United States has often been used as an example of the ideal free country. When the one nation that is known for its freedom and rights start to abuse its own people, this is when you must fight back, because others are soon to follow. Do not think that just because you are not a United States citizen, that this does not apply to you. You cannot wait for your country to decide to do the same. You must stop it before it grows, before it becomes acceptable. You must destroy its foundation before it becomes too powerful.

Has the U.S. government not learned from the past? Has it not seen the 2011 revolutions? Has it not seen that we oppose this wherever we find it and that we will continue to oppose it? Obviously the United States Government thinks they are exempt. This is not only an Anonymous collective call to action. What will a Distributed Denial of Service attack do? What's a website de face ment against the corrupted powers of the government? No. This is a call for a worldwide internet and physical protest against the powers that be. Spread this message everywhere. We will not stand for this! Tell your parents, your neighbors, your fellow workers, your school teachers, and anyone else you come in contact with. This affects anyone that desires the freedom to browse anonymously, speak freely without fear of retribution, or protest without fear of arrest.

Go to every I R C network, every social network, every online community, and tell them of the atrocity that is about to be committed. If protest is not enough, the United States government shall see that we are truly legion and we shall come together as one force opposing this attempt to censor the internet once again, and in the process discourage any other government from continuing or trying.

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive censorship.
We do not forget the denial of our free rights as human beings.
To the United States government, you should've expected us.

The IP ACT HAS ALSO VIOLATED OTHER BILLS, WE HAVE COMPARED AND IS FAR WORST. WE WILL TERMINATE THE BILL AT ANY CAUSE....

A message from Anonymous, to the United States Government. The IP Protect Act has violated the
Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976 and Freedom of Expression.

We have the rights to express ourselves or others with Section 107, For a example, "we can sing to the music published by the artist and upload it to FaceBook or YouTube and express ourselves or others.
Our Family's and Friend's won't be able to communicate with each other from outside the US, Including us, (even when its an emergency). LIVE!, PlayStation Network and other US Online Gaming Entertainments will also be disconnected from the outside world causing a Rage war from the gamers.
Facebook, Yahoo, AOL, Sony, Microsoft, 4chan, and The people will take back the internet, the internet shouldn't be messed with. its where we gain information of knowledge for School, Work, projects and anything.
The US Government, what you have done is going to cause Chaos for the Internet, Companies and Education.

This video can not be removed due to Section 107 and Freedom of Speech and Expression.

Anonymous, in their own words..

Greetings.
Unemployed and students, wage slaves and Farmers, priests and rock stars.
Mothers and fathers, sons and daughters. Anonymous brothers and sisters of earth.
This is an anonymous message to the people of the world.

More and more of us are poor and starving.
More and more of us are being killed and imprisoned.
More and more of us are being censored and monitored.
More and more of our rights, hopes and dreams are quickly being stripped away.
The world of today is a dark place. The many live under the rule of the few.
This is true all around the world.

This @!$%#, has got to go.

For to long our need to belong has been perversely used by those who wish to rule us. Since time immemorial, we, the people, have been separated and divided.
Since time immemorial, we, the people, have been conquered and ruled.
But from time to time, we, the people, unite.
Such is our history, for we do not forgive, and we do not forget.

That which has been before, has been a remarkable progression.
That which is today, is a remarkable situation.
And that which is to come, is without precedent.
Make no mistake. History is in the making. The window of opportunity is open.

As technological advancements give us a new global consciousness and unprecedented unity, governments, corporations and old world establishments are threatened at their very core. As a result they are now fighting us all in a war. Never before have so few tried to fight so many.

Their tricks are numerous, their methods are dangerous and cruel.
But In times of mass propaganda, lies and oppression - indeed, in times of universal deceit, one word of truth outweighs the whole world.
Truth is revolutionary and courage is contagious.
We ask you to understand this, for to understand, is to transform what is.

The time has come for what we all have been waiting for.
You, are the idea to which time has finally come. You are the calm and the storm.
You, are anonymous. We are anonymous.

The time has come for you to pick up your personal responsibility.
The time has come for each one of us to speak the word of truth.

This year anonymous invites all human beings to create something and present it to the world. Put something out there for the world to see. Never be silent! Always be bold!
Listen and speak, learn and teach, read and write. Create. Revolt. You decide your own level of involvement in human evolution, but never fear, for you are not alone.

In 2011 the world is divided by zero. In 2011, who is Spartacus?

We are anonymous
We are legion
We do not forgive
We do not forget
Expect us

With thanks to the AVAAZ Team for the fab research and tireless activism, this is from you!!

Free speech advocates have already raised the alarm, and some key Senators are trying to gather enough support to stop this dangerous bill. We have no time to lose. Let's stand with them to ensure our lawmakers preserve the right to a free and open Internet as an essential way for people in the US and around the world to exchange ideas, share communication and work collectively to build the world we want. Sign below to stop censorship, and save the Internet as we know it:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet_us_a/?vl

In the past months, from the Arab Spring to the global Occupy Movement, we've seen first hand how the Internet can galvanize, unify and change society. Now, if we stand together, we can stop this new attack on Internet freedom. We've done it before -- in Brazil and Italy, Avaaz members have won major victories in the fight for a free Internet. Let's mobilize here in the US to defeat the most powerful censorship threat that the Internet has ever seen.

With hope,

Luis, Dalia, Diego, Emma, Ricken, Aaron, Antonia, Benjamin and the rest of the Avaaz team

This started earlier with a seed to one youtube, so there may be some crossing of comments but by the time this was finished that had a comment and it seemed rather rude to delete it so here's the seed too.

Youtube has been a real target because of the music industry. Now anyone can make a video and place it on the internet for the world to see. The problem is many in power want to not only regulate our freedom of speech on the internet, but they want to make large profits off the internet. So it will transform from public holdings to stock holdings! We are already controlled by mass media because they are all stockholder owned and driven. The only remote possibility of getting accurate non biased news is through "public TV" like Democracy Now and Link; however, they are all struggling financially and I fear they will be a thing of the past. I see this country moving towards China ... Unregulated industry that trashes the environment and controlled internet :~( I am reminded of a profound quote by Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

None are more hopelessly enslaved……..

Than those who falsely believe that they are free………

If we never had the Internet to access information it may have been easier to keep selling the idea of freedom without actually letting people be free. But the genie is out of the bottle now, not only is much of the public aware of how much propaganda we are fed by official sources, a whole generation is coming of age with none of their parent's blind faith in the traditional. It's impossible to predict the future, but bet will be on the 99% shifting the balance a little rather than a crackdown that can trigger real social upheaval.

Kyle...I have a feeling that this is going to get real interesting!

"May you live in interesting times" is an old Chinese curse, but I believe you're right Kyle and curse or not I'd rather have that than apathy and decay we've seen for too long. The Establishment elite have played the same game by the same rules for centuries.

Now the playing field is a realm they barely grasp and the Legions who challenge their Empires are invisible, ethereal and can not be conquered with weapons and troops. It's a game changer and lucky us we have front row seats!

If Occupy does not fully organize and I mean internet organization with websites... making a list of changes we want....etc. Nothing will happen. Its too abstract. There are NO demand for change like

1. Remove ALL money from politicians. NO private contributions. Taxpayers will foot the campaign bill and a limit would be set. Burn Gover's pact at the stake, reverse Citizens United... Make lobbyists illegal. If we do not do this... nothing will change.

nina,

They tried that in Canada. The taxpayers revolted against it, even though it was only costing about 38 million dollars a year (2 dollars for each voting person in the country, total amount depended on the number of people that voted).

It was just killed, because people wanted direct contributions.

It is not the job of the public to design the solutions, but to identify the problems. I don't think Occupy needs to make specific demands beyond making government truly serve the public interest.

It means we don't have Police attacking protesters, we don't have Congress engaged in corporate welfare & censorship. It means our regulators don't allow toxic waste and unsafe drugs to threaten us because lobbyists and profits come before the public good. The list is long, but it all boils down to simple rules, don't steal from us, don't lie to us and if you work as a public servant, serve the gosh darn public!

We need to demand the corporate media report accurately so we as a Nation can find our way forward in a Democratic process with truthful representation of what is happening to our money and done in the name of America. That's a huge amount of change that is easily done without redesigning any systems but the moral compass of the 1% who made the mess we're in now.

One thing that has been made obvious by the Occupy movement that must be immediately addressed is the matter of free speech.

The laws that have been stealthily put into place by virtually every city in the country over the last few years that limit public assembly, forbid long-term gatherings, and otherwise abridge the ability of free speech must be overturned.

That is first. But I agree with Pamela. Occupy are not lawmakers. It is up to the politicians that we have elected to interpret the anger of the country and translate that into action.

When the people do the jobs of the politicians, it is seldom a pretty thing to behold.

Censorship seems even closer than I imagined as 5 years worth of comments including a dozen from the fast week are erased from my article on Monsanto's powers of censorship and intimidation!

My article from 2006 now has 57 votes and 1 comment on the counter though the comment I left upon finding the discussion thread vanished isn't appearing now either!

Kearney Outlaw...I'd guess glitches and bugs before deliberate malfeasance.

Except when the bugs are selective, not system wide problems. It's almost six years here now and I've lived through plenty of software issues as well as problems that are never resolved, like the systematic revision of Viner standings to shift the popularity of contributor rankings by moving the commas in the figures.

The leaderboard is conveniently screwed up and that has been the fall back excuse for ages now and for the record that's not my real concern, what it boils down to is honesty and fairness vs censorship.

You notice they don't have a problem placing ad content and billing for that, GE are empirical mavens of finance and global commerce, who can stock light bulbs on the store shelves from Peoria to China and lease fleets of aircraft and rolling stock that move the cargo of global commerce, but can't make a comment counter work as well as it did when they acquired us? Sorry, just not buying it, nor are other outspoken victims.

It's very odd when it went up before dawn and during the day was linked all over the place. Thanks both of you for coming by I was delighted to finally see comments. Look for my friends invites, seriously can't tell you how relieved I am to know the content is even accessible to you. :~)

It seems these Anonymous videos have met similar challenges in linking from Twitter and other sites as well. Half joking I said somewhere, maybe the censorship tools planned in the Protect IP Bill are in beta test now, but not amusing!

My best suggestion to everyone is to ring the phones of the hooks at the Capitol. Congress may be expert at turning a deaf ear, but when their phones ring they do take note of call numbers.

Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121 and a brief, polite message I voted for you but if you vote for this Bill my family and friends and I will be voting for your opponent and it works for every MoC and any legislation!!,

I will be sending emails to my state senators, congressmen, etc. I want to use my work email as I think they might have a better chance of getting through, being one of those Government employees!

To be honest with you, it is difficult to know when the internet is being monitored. When I am in China, I have web access and When you type in the URL, you are redirected to another website. Chinese people do not have access to Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. It does NOT say, you do not have access to these sites, you just end up at another site. So many people are unaware that the internet is controlled by the government in China except for the youth!

nina,

if you work for the government and you are in the US, assume your internet is being monitored. It is a shame that a country that prides itself on freedom is also a country that has what I consider the highest level of monitoring in the 'free world'.

There's a whole globe of people who feel the same way and a handful who have the skills to try to change that abuse of power.

Well I am from Canada and when I came back down here a few years ago to live, I was just flat out shocked at the level of intrusion. And it isn't about health insurance type intrusion (where I think a single payer would be much more effective) but really about the invasion of our private lives. Right now, I don't have to monitor my employees, though I did have to run drug tests until we sold another part of our business off, but if we go the direction that we want to business wise, then we will have to start that and other intrusions into our employee's lives, and a lot of it, I am can really say that I am ashamed that we have to do it. Scary.

Here's another odd thing, I've voted for these comments and they have a check so I can't vote again, but no number is displayed, the counter is at zero, not saying it's a software tool to keep traffic down, but when folks wonder how you shift user status, not a bad tool for starters.

they are both at 1 right now (I rarely vote for any comments, I just never got into the habit, I read, if I find something interesting or a retort, I comment back). but what I find interesting is that it looks like the CSS style changed, and not for the good, so it is possible that there is just some server problems.

I'm hyper tuned to anomalies, but sometimes stuff just happens lol!!

As far as voting goes, I do try to encourage folks to vote up all the comments they like or agree with. It makes the contributor feel good as it shows support and every vote sends it through the live tracker to help draw in more folks to the discussion, so it's good by at least two counts; not many things can we do that easily do that much!! :~)

It isn't something that I am personally attuned to, hence I really don't pay much attention to it lol. Though apparently it is votes that will get me out of the greenhouse. :))

Pamela Drew The reason I believe that the vine is not following this is the vast majority of the vines are obsessed with the run for the big brass ring. And the main stream media which supports this site are also the same corporation that paid no taxes last year. So all conversation is directed and move into this arena. People only understand what is placed directly in front of them and some bill that is to stop theft can be interpreted to mean any thing once it passes and the attorneys get hold of it. The only way people will wake up is when this and other sites vanish from the screen some morning and a message states that to enter this and any domain allowed on this server will cost you a huge amount of money. Also the content of the posts and the information will be strickly controled with the death of the printed word and the growth of tech media the desire to control is a power that many can not resist.

I;m a stickler for factual accuracy, GE/MSNBC don't support Newsvine, they own us. We were bought after we were named TIME top ten sites in 2007. They have been making sure ever since the best voices are driven away and the taboo topics that had so many brilliant contributors marginalized and silenced. They bleed us dry and pump in swill, put ads in our columns and seed un-moderated feeds into comments, yes they pay no taxes suck more income from taxpayers. Corporate parents!

But you're right in all the things you are saying as far as an average poster, new user certainly true in large measure as a cultural observation. But I've been here five years, had a couple hundred articles posted and well over a thousand seeds. My topics are always under the radar and my anonymous posts segued to the creation of the Occupy groups here and those are going gangbusters.

Before MSNBC started adjusting the comma placement on comment history numbers, I spent years as a top ten contributor here so I do know the activity and know sometimes things don't get legs, but this one feels too out of synch with all my history here! Just sayin' but you made and my thanks for that and the wonderfully insightful comment that applies to everything but me atm, lol :~)

After blogging on CNN for a couple of years, I welcome MSNBC and newsvine. Keeping the site open, paying people to monitor so some do not get completely out of control, all costs $$$. Since MSNBC is owned by stockholders, they comply with those that pay the bills. Unfortunately that does have a trickle down effect. I am just thankful that this site is available!

well for one, the NBC part of MSNBC is no longer owned by GE, it is now owned by Comcast (small difference, but Comcast is noticeably more right wing than NBC was, not sure if that will make a difference editorially though)

I am not sure if the marginalization though is a corporate policy, I am not even sure how they would do it on a free forum site like this. Not saying they aren't but not sure exactly how they would do it. I wonder if the 'award' may have started the influx of people that should actually probably be living in the fox news blogsphere but have now infested here (call em rereg's, call em teabaggers, call em what you want lol).

There's a long story but it was done and folks here from Beta can explain better than me exactly how!

The same thing happened with the NYTimes site and when that shut down in like 07 a whole influx arrived and dubbed themselves NYTimes refugees. While they cherished the improvement from the lawless message board system it is not the place we evolved from by any stretch of the imagination.

If you come across Jack Gillis who arrived with the refugees and stayed he'd be better able to tell you if it's better here now than it was then with a relevant experience for comparison. :~)

This is all coming down to money vs. principle. Hmmm. Where else have we seen this one lately? If those in power aren't listening, and we the people have nothing left to lose, then they'd best be ready to drop all masks. Because things are going to get ugly.

Funny you say that it's a thought that comes to mind very often, my children will pay for what we didn't know we were taking for granted. Not many things make you feel glad to be old, but the world condition as a result of a small cadre of Teflon Don profiteers makes a future that's not better for anyone or the planet.
